About me (1996)

I spent my early days playing and blowing air into my favorite SuperNes and SEGA cartridges. I wondered how they were made and spent hours changing the game files of GTA2 and Jazz JackRabbit to get to know how this magic works.

That curiosity led me here. A creative game designer and game jam enthusiast.
Along the way, I worked on several personal/commercial projects, learning new tools, meeting new people, improving my scripting, designing and programming abilities.

Probably right now, I'm working on some project, joining a jam, discovering a game, drawing Anime. Anyway this is selection of projects I loved working on.

Pix Hop

Endless arcade game, with focus on minimal design and enemy levels variations, Creating an addicting and engaging experience with only basic movement and jumping as a mechanic.

I used combos and coins as a way to make the player into tense and fun gameplays -yet- rewarding ones.

The game is very minimal with only the squares as an asset for all graphics.. Using polishing and animations to define different mechanics.

Minimalistic take on Sokoban and joints as theme, where the player doesn't push boxes but sticks to them.

My focus was on designing puzzles and creating a balanced learning curve while introducing new concepts gradually from tutorials to complex puzzles.

Using simple animations and sound effects to clarify things and giving a calming atmosphere even to novice puzzle games.

Serious-puzzle game focused on learning work ethics. Player controls a blue-collar worker in a jelly factory. On a day-cycle from home to factory.

Puzzles are included to make users learn about work ethics and collaboration methods through errors and mistakes while rewarding users who take right steps before errors. And a dinner-dash style gameplay in the factory.

Art was meant to be appealing to all segments to reach the maximum audience we could and it has been a great learning experience - communication was key as it was always remote with the artist.

In this horror game you play as a psychiatrist going to an exhibition about hell to probably find new clients.

Where the player interacts with people and objects and solves puzzles in a horror narrative atmosphere.

Sneaky Bullet

Puzzle game where the player slides into a room of criminals with his rope and has one bullet to ricochet while not falling or seen by enemies.

I used reverse puzzle design and hand made ones for this game with new mechanics for enemies to rich the learning curve of it.

Bouncy Cat

A hyper-casual mobile game where you squeeze the cat to make a jump in a hilarious risky way.

This project was part of a game-jam about slow and fast where the game changes from hyper mode to angry-birds like jump.

I worked on the game's idea, balancing jump and physics terms, and obstacles and managed to win the runner up prize.

In this arcade player has to keep stacking blocks in a minimal shape, keeping them few and connected.

If the blocks reach the border or are left behind somehow; Player loses.

I tried to create a adaptive atmosphere reacting to game process manipulating the sounds and polishing elements.

Allusion

A simple game about illusion where puzzles are based on concepts like memory, perspectives and time.

Your field of vision is limited, making your surroundings feel uncertain and claustrophobic. Cryptic quotes appear as you manoeuvre through the endless passageways of the level.

Rage Among the Stars

In this hardcore-speedrun platformer, I worked on development of the game focusing on player and world mechanics in GameMaker Studio.

Covering platformer mechanics including moving platforms, portals, wall sliding, conveyors sliding on ice, enemies, ghost replay mode and boss fights. Shipped to Steam with achievements and highscores.

Everyone wants the neesh

In this game jam about rituals, the player gets into a marriage story in the egyptian-style where he finally fights with his partner’s family.

By a very simple top down shooter as a fight between the characters I introduced marriage rituals in Egypt in a comedy yet fun way.

I created the characters in pixel style based on a well known stereotype of family members in Egypt’s TV culture.

Game got honorable mention from GGJ and was showcased in A MAZE. / Johannesburg 2016.

Minimalistic take on the Flappy Bird formula, in which you fly around an ever changing circular course in search of that elusive high score.

The game has three modes (fly, flap and zigzag) with a two-player mode.

An astronaut on the way back to his spaceship facing no aliens but gravity, black holes and asteroids.

in this prototype, I focused on exploring character animation, level creation tools, post processing and movement mechanics in Unity for mobile.

Akshal (Shapes)

Tetris-platformer where the player changes the tiles using its gun and then has to move and jump on it, leading it to disappear.

The jam theme was Chaos. So with shapes dropping at an increasing rate as the player tries to avoid getting hit by it too.

In this project I tried implementing highscore api and touch controls to make a mobile-web supported game.
